Creative workshop for adults - Papercrete workshop

Cesare Botti will be presenting the work he produced in Donostia and Hernani during his artistic residency as part of the Art and Landscape programme, a collaboration between Tabakalera and Chillida Leku. Botti tackled themes such as the third landscape, situationist drift and psychogeography, and drew close to Chillida's architecture of the void.

During the workshop, he will introduce us to the making of ‘papercrete’, a versatile DIY material made from a mixture of paper and concrete. In the process, the artist explores vernacular architecture, sculpture and ceramics. Using the material, he will guide the audience through the making of small sculptural works using the technique he developed during the residency, creating three-dimensional objects by intersecting planes.


BIO

Born in northern Italy, he now lives in Brussels. He spent his formative years playing around the many abandoned industrial buildings in his hometown. Exploring, skateboarding and painting graffiti fuelled his fascination with the built environment and his interest in the informal uses of urban spaces, shaping his artistic perspective. In 2018, she moved to study Fine Art at the GerritRietveld Academie in Amsterdam, and developed a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses photography, sculptural assemblage work with found materials, mural painting, publishing and organising exhibitions in unique locations. His artistic practice is based on urban exploration as a tool for observing, questioning and reacting to the built environment. By closely observing industrial sites, infrastructures and wastelands, his aim is to reveal some ideas about the human relationship with the landscape, how technical thinking is shaping our reality and how we can re-establish the relationship with the built environment and its materiality.
